Update Free and Pro safely

Understand WordPress.org, direct Free and private Pro updates.

Back up and test

Back up the site before updating. Rehearse important forms on staging, then verify a real form, stored entry and notification after the update. Read the release requirements before installing.

View Accessible Forms on WordPress.org

  1. Back up plugin files and the database.
  2. Read release notes and compatibility requirements.
  3. Rehearse an important form, entry and email workflow on staging.

Free distribution

Accessible Forms by Accessible.org is available in the WordPress.org plugin directory and receives its Free updates through WordPress.org. The separate direct Free ZIP receives signed updates from Accessible.org without an account or paid key. Keep one Free distribution active; either can be used alongside Pro.

  1. Identify whether the installed Free build is direct or from the directory.
  2. Use only one Free distribution at a time.
  3. For the directory build, check Plugins or Dashboard → Updates and install the available WordPress.org update.

Pro updates

Keep Free active and connect an eligible Pro license. Pro checks its private update service through the normal WordPress update screens and verifies downloaded release integrity. Install a required Free update before updating Pro.

  1. Update Free first if the Pro release requires a newer core version.
  2. Check the Pro license connection and download entitlement.
  3. Use the WordPress update screen, then verify a controlled submission and notification.

Changing distribution

Switching Free channels requires replacing the Free installer with the chosen distribution once. Back up first. Do not use Delete on an old copy when the site is configured to erase plugin data on uninstall.

  1. Back up before replacing the Free installer with the other distribution.
  2. Do not activate two copies of Free together.
  3. Avoid deleting an old copy when uninstall is configured to erase the shared plugin data.
